Developers, designers and artists will unite for a 48-hour game development marathon, highlighting Africa’s rising influence in the global gaming industry.

Tunisia.- Tunisia has officially announced the dates for the Global Game Jam 2026, scheduled from January 26 to February 1, 2026, putting Africa firmly on the global gaming map. The showcase brings together developers, designers and artists for an intense 48-hour session, where participants collaborate to design and build video games around a shared theme.

Organisers said: “The 2025 edition of our global gaming jam this year in Tunisia is set to be the ultimate gathering for video game enthusiasts of all ages.”

Exact venues for the 2026 edition are being finalised, with past events hosted at Tunisia’s leading innovation hubs, including Elgazala Technopark in Ariana, Elaco Coworking Space in Soliman and Zarzis Smart Center. Event coordinators are expected to confirm the locations as the event approaches.

Registration for the Global Game Jam 2026 will open in two stages: venues that want to host the event, called Jam Sites, can register starting November 3, 2025, while individual participants, known as Jammers, can sign up at those locations beginning December 1, 2025, through the official website.

As the world’s largest game development initiative, the Jam has attracted more than 474,000 participants from 132 countries, producing more than 101,000 games as of 2025. In Tunisia, the event is organised by Makers Factory, S2T Ghazala Technopark and Tunisie Telecom, showcasing the country’s growing role in Africa’s digital and creative industries.

The 2026 edition promises to highlight the continent’s talent, spark collaboration and strengthen Africa’s presence in the global gaming scene.
