Morocco launches AI-powered gaming challenge backed by Huawei

Young Moroccan developers compete to create next-generation AI-driven games, supported with mentorship, financial incentives and advanced digital tools.

Morocco.- Morocco is stepping into the spotlight of AI-driven gaming innovation with the launch of the Huawei Developer Competition 2025, a nationwide challenge giving young developers the tools, mentorship and financial support to create next-generation digital games and interactive experiences.

The competition positions Morocco as a rising hub for gaming startups in Africa, showcasing the Kingdom’s commitment to fostering technological talent and cutting-edge entertainment.

Morocco Gaming Industry (MGI) said: “Huawei Technologies Morocco has officially announced the launch of the Huawei Developer Competition 2025, an initiative designed to support and encourage Moroccan youth to innovate in the field of Artificial Intelligence (AI).”

The competition builds on a collaboration formed last year during the Gaming Startups Meeting Day, linking Huawei Morocco with government partners to strengthen Morocco’s role in Africa’s gaming sector.

MGI added: “This move is part of the strategic agreement signed between Huawei Technologies Morocco and the Ministry of Youth, Culture and Communication – Department of Communication, formalised during the Gaming Startups Meeting Day in October 2024. The partnership aims to bolster technological innovation and foster digital talent across the Kingdom.”

Participants receive financial support vouchers between $100 and $200 to help prototype their ideas. Top projects will compete for prizes ranging from $1,000 to $5,000, with total prize pool details to be confirmed. Developers can participate individually or in teams of up to five members.

The competition kicked off in September 2025 and is scheduled to run until December 2025, with key milestones including submissions in November and a final award ceremony in December. Competitors gain access to Huawei’s tools for AI integration and digital game development, enabling them to create next-generation gaming experiences.

Morocco is quickly emerging as a hub for gaming innovation in Africa. Programs like Huawei Cloud Gaming, which provide startups with cloud-based tools and guidance, are accelerating the growth of the local digital entertainment sector. Rabat Gaming City, a $26m innovation hub with studios, co-working spaces and mentorship programs, strengthens the ecosystem for aspiring developers.

The Huawei Developer Competition 2025 gives Moroccan youth the opportunity to experiment with cloud-based platforms, create AI-powered games, and contribute to the country’s digital economy, reinforcing Morocco’s position as a rising leader in Africa’s gaming industry.
