São Tomé and Príncipe players boost traffic to international betting platforms
SEMrush data shows growing engagement with Betano, Stake, YesPlay and mega.iomega.io despite no local online gambling regulation.
São Tomé and Príncipe.- São Tomé and Príncipe is gaining momentum in international online gambling, with players increasingly visiting foreign betting and casino platforms, according to SEMrush traffic data. In December 2025, Betano recorded the highest traffic from the country, followed by Stake, reflecting growing engagement with international online platforms.
The SEMrush trending websites tool shows that Betano received over 430 visits from São Tomé players, while Stake logged approximately 280 visits. Other platforms attracting attention include mega.iomega.io and YesPlay (based on domain visits), highlighting growing interest across a variety of international online gambling platforms.
The SEMrush report states: “São Tomé players are driving growing traffic to international online gambling platforms, including Betano and Stake, according to SEMrush data. Even without local licensing, the country is showing clear momentum in digital gambling activity.”
No local online gambling regulation
São Tomé and Príncipe currently does not regulate online gambling, and there are no local licences for online betting or casino platforms. Its gambling law only recognises land-based casino gambling, not internet-based platforms, according to the Legal Compliance Bureau. Players access international platforms freely, making this interest an organic, user-driven trend rather than a regulated market.
São Tomé and Príncipe is a small island nation in the Gulf of Guinea, off the west coast of Central Africa. Despite its size, the islands’ online gambling activity is notable, with players showing growing interest in international platforms – highlighting the digital potential for gambling in smaller African markets.
Media reports state that analysts predict this trend will continue, positioning São Tomé as a small but growing market for online gambling in Africa, where players increasingly favour digital convenience over land-based options.
