Botswana Gambling Authority puts consumer protection at centre of women’s leadership event
The regulator used the Spring Highlight Dinner to highlight consumer protection, responsible gambling and its wider role in supporting Botswana’s communities.
Botswana.- Botswana’s Gambling Authority used a high-profile women’s leadership gathering to bring responsible gambling and consumer protection into a wider conversation about corporate citizenship and community support.
The regulator was the headline sponsor of the Summit Organisation’s Spring Highlight Series, with its Chief Financial Officer, Tshepang Magang, joining the panel at the Spring Highlight Dinner on September 3 at The Grand Palm Hotel.
The dinner formed part of Botswana’s 60th Independence celebrations and brought together women from across politics, traditional leadership, diplomacy, academia, public health, business and development.
For the Gambling Authority, the event offered a platform to look beyond the technical side of regulation. Magang spoke about responsible gambling, corporate citizenship and the responsibility institutions have towards the communities they serve.
The Authority said: “The Gambling Authority is proud to have supported this important occasion and remains committed to responsible gambling, empowered communities and partnerships that create meaningful national impact.”
The event comes as Botswana’s gambling sector enters a new phase, with the Authority also seeking investor interest in proposed bingo and casino developments across the country.
Magang also highlighted the regulator’s commitment to an industry that protects consumers while contributing to Botswana’s social and economic development, according to the Authority. She pointed to public education, harm-prevention measures and continued investment in communities as important elements of that approach.
The Authority said its role extends beyond regulating gambling activities, with corporate social responsibility initiatives and partnerships forming part of its efforts to support communities and worthy causes.
The Spring Highlight Dinner consequently gave the regulator an opportunity to put its responsible-gambling message alongside a broader discussion about women’s leadership and the contribution institutions can make to society.
The evening also recognised prominent women including dr Naledi Pandor, Pelonomi Venson-Moitoi, dr Margaret Nasha, professor Sheila Tlou, ambassador Mmasekgoa Masire-Mwamba and Dr Lulu Gwagwa.
