Rwanda.- Rwanda is set to light up the African esports scene as the continent’s top EAFC25 players prepare to clash in a high-stakes showdown. The SportsBiz Africa Esports Cup brings together players from eight nations, a $5,000 prize pool, and fast-paced digital football action, showcasing how Africa’s football culture is levelling up in the booming esports world.
EAFC25, which stands for Electronic Arts Sports Football Club 2025, is the latest edition of EA Sports’ football video game. Players compete in digital football tournaments and online leagues. The tournament will take place on September 7, combining real-world football strategy with fast-paced esports action and attracting the continent’s best gamers.
The organisers said: “We are optimistic that this invitational tournament will be the start of something amazing in Africa’s EAFC esports scene.”
Eight nations, one battle for esports glory

The eight participating nations, Rwanda, Kenya, Egypt, South Africa, Nigeria, Tanzania, Uganda, and South Sudan, will showcase the diversity and strength of African esports. The tournament underscores how football culture continues to merge seamlessly with Africa’s booming esports scene, highlighting the rise of competitive esports across the continent.
The competition is powered by a partnership between SportsBiz Africa and Kenya’s IndexG Esports, highlighting the increasing collaboration between esports organisations and sports business platforms. Organisers hope the event will further establish African esports as a credible and commercially viable industry.
The tournament will be held at Zaria Court in Kigali, Rwanda’s capital. It will form part of the larger SportsBiz Africa Conference, running from September 9 to 10, which will include the SportsBiz Africa Forum, Deal Room, Policymakers Roundtable, exhibitor showcases, and a golf tournament. Embedding esports within this broader business and networking context emphasizes digital competition as a key pillar of Africa’s sports ecosystem.
For African esports, this event is more than a competition. Hosting EAFC25 in Rwanda with cross-continental participation and international support positions the country as both a hub for emerging esports talent and a growing market for global esports expansion.
