Named after the Governor of the Hardap Region, Riaan McNab, the cup drew teams from rural areas like Groot Aub, creating a sense of regional connection.
Namibia.- Oudrewman Betting has joined other companies in sponsoring the inaugural Riaan McNab Hardap Governor’s Cup, a football tournament held to promote social awareness and community engagement, specifically targeting issues such as domestic violence, child abuse and addiction. The tournament, which took place between September 27-28, 2025, saw 36 teams compete for a share of the N$50,000 (€2,480) prize pool.
MPSH from Windhoek emerged victorious after a dramatic 4-3 penalty shootout against Tuk-Tuk at Rehoboth Stadium. The winning team secured N$25,000 (€1,240), a floating trophy and 20 gold medals, while Tuk-Tuk earned N$12,500 (€620) and silver medals. Semi-finalists Omandindi FC and Rehoboth FC each received N$6,250 (€310). Individual honours went to MPSH’s Ndjraeree Maharero as best player and Erastus Mulundi as best goalkeeper, both of whom were awarded N$1,000 (€49.61) and trophies.
Organised by Rhuuksie//Garoeb, the event carried a powerful message that went beyond the vibrant weekend football action, bolstered by its theme, “Football against Gender-Based Violence, Violence against Children, and Substance Abuse”. The stands buzzed with families and supporters, many of whom shared personal stories of overcoming local challenges.
Oudrewman Betting, a Namibian sports wagering company based in Khomas, saw the event as an opportunity to support community engagement. Its involvement signals a commitment to community-driven initiatives, with plans to deepen ties in future editions of the cup.
A spokesperson said: “We sponsor tournaments like this to strengthen local bonds. Watching young people and families unite for football and a meaningful cause is why we’re here.”
The company, which collaborates with tech providers like NSoft for its betting platform, has backed local sports previously but marked this as its first major sponsorship of a socially themed tournament. Other sponsors of the tournament include Chico Namibia and the Stina Youth Growth Foundation.
Named after the Governor of the Hardap Region, Riaan McNab, the cup drew teams from rural areas like Groot Aub, creating a sense of regional connection. Players and supporters travelled long distances, transforming the stadium into a hub of shared purpose.
Tournament organiser Garoeb hailed the event’s success, saying: “This was more than football; it was about bringing people together to tackle serious issues like gender-based violence and substance abuse. We thank the teams, fans, sponsors and volunteers for making this possible and look forward to growing the event in the future.”
