NWGB and SARGF hold Punters Activation campaign in Rustenburg

The team engaged with patrons about playing smart, staying in control of their betting behaviour and making responsible gambling choices.

South Africa.- The North West Gambling Board (NWGB), in collaboration with the South African Responsible Gambling Foundation (SARGF), has concluded its five-day Punters Activation campaign aimed at promoting responsible gambling practices among bettors in the jurisdiction.

The initiative, which was held to mark the NWGB’s Responsible Gambling Awareness Week from October 6 to 10, focused on Rustenburg in the North West province. On the first day, the board visited a Betfred location at Transforum Shopping Centre, where it engaged with patrons about playing smart, staying in control of their betting behaviour and making responsible gambling choices. The team also handed out branded items like notebooks, pens, bottles and bags.

The next day, representatives set up shop at V-Slots and Scorebet outlets, educating punters about the dangers of gambling addiction and how to be a responsible gambler. On October 8, the NWGB and SARGF team were at Goldrush Bingo in Rustenburg Platinum Square Mall with the same message. They also shared educational materials and other promotional items.

On day four, the team hosted another responsible gambling awareness activation at Betfred, Boom Street, where they interacted with punters who appreciated them for the valuable insights shared. They concluded their awareness drive on October 10 with a visit to Betfred’s Mid-Town Mall outlet, where they reinforced key messages about betting responsibly.

This effort followed prior NWGB actions in Rustenburg and other areas in the province, like Ditsobola, Delareyville and Atanelang. The NWGB and SARGF plan ongoing work to encourage smart betting and help-seeking.

Community-focused approaches like these demonstrate the NWGB’s commitment to addressing problem gambling and promoting responsible betting habits among local residents, which is especially crucial in light of recent data showing that about 54.5 per cent of the money South African households spend on fun activities goes towards gambling.
