Uganda Principal Judge commends NLGRB’s gambling regulation efforts
Abodo praised the regulator’s work as it used the National Court Open Day to engage the public on gambling laws, licensing and responsible gaming.
Uganda.- Uganda’s Principal Judge, Jane Frances Abodo of the High Court, has commended the National Lotteries and Gaming Regulatory Board (NLGRB) for its efforts to regulate the country’s gambling sector.
The NLGRB said it was honoured to host Abodo at its exhibition during Uganda’s third National Court Open Day on September 10 at Kololo Independence Grounds in Kampala, in a post. The regulator said she commended “NGLRB Uganda for its efforts in regulating the gaming sector”, adding that her remarks reaffirmed the importance of awareness in protecting the public and enforcing the law.
The event was held under the theme “Delivering Inclusive, Efficient and Effective Justice.” A total of 88 exhibitors from the Judiciary and other justice-sector institutions had confirmed their participation. The Judiciary said the event provided a platform to engage directly with the public and receive feedback on the delivery of justice, according to UG Standard.
At its exhibition, the NLGRB engaged visitors on gaming laws, licensing, compliance and responsible gaming, while explaining its role in protecting the public from the adverse effects of gaming.
The September event was Uganda’s third National Court Open Day, following the second edition in December 2025, which focused on public engagement around licensing, compliance, responsible gambling and consumer protection.
The engagement came as the NLGRB was also participating in Africa’s first Safer Gambling Week, which ran from September 7-11. Uganda was among the regulators and organisations supporting the #PlaySafeAfrica campaign, which focused on responsible gambling and player protection. NLGRB CEO Denis Ngabirano said Uganda’s participation reflected the Board’s focus on ensuring gaming remains lawful, transparent, entertaining and safe.
