North West Gambling Board reviews regulatory legislation, workplace standards at staff meeting

Employees received updates on amendments to gambling legislation and guidance on information requests and workplace responsibilities.

South Africa.- The North West Gambling Board (NWGB) has reviewed its performance, staff development priorities and workplace conduct at an internal meeting held on October 27 at Mmabatho Palms Hotel and Casino. During the meeting, staff received updates on the NWGB Amendment Betting Billl, which was approved by the provincial legislature in August 2026 following a legislative process that included public hearings and consultations with industry stakeholders.

The bill aligns provincial gambling legislation with the National Gambling Act, 2004, addresses taxation and empowers gambling inspectors to enforce compliance. According to the board, the briefing helped staff understand the amendments and their implications for its regulatory functions.

In addition to the legislation, participants discussed the Promotion of Access to Information Act (PAIA) manual, which sets out how members of the public can formally request access to information held by public bodies, including the NWGB. Staff received guidance on procedures for processing information requests, directing applicants to the appropriate officials and determining which records could be disclosed or withheld under the law.

Discussions also covered workplace professionalism and the need to maintain a safe and respectful environment. The meeting addressed the importance of clear communication, adherence to workplace policies and responsible behaviour in carrying out official duties.

The NWGB said the meeting reaffirmed its commitment to organisational excellence, staff development and fostering a working environment built on professionalism and mutual respect.
