NLGRB seizes 399 slot machine motherboards in latest sting on illegal gambling

The latest enforcement action is part of the ongoing Operation “Mashine Haramu”, which aims to clamp down on unauthorised gaming operators, manufacturers and suppliers across Uganda.

Uganda.- The National Lotteries and Gaming Regulatory Board (NLGRB), in collaboration with the Uganda Police Force, has conducted a sting operation in Lungujja, Kikandwa, Kampala’s Rubaga Division, where they cracked down on an illegal gaming manufacturing setup. At the site of the raid, authorities confiscated 399 slot machine motherboards, 15 Chinese-manufactured slot machines and two sacks filled with various gaming machine spare parts.

The operation also led to the arrest of one individual, Wadedeya Asuman, who was taken into custody at his shop and is currently being held at the Central Police Station in Kampala. The suspect will appear at Makindye Standards Court on charges of making gaming and betting machines available for use, a violation of the Lotteries and Gaming Act, Cap. 334.

This latest enforcement action is part of the ongoing Operation “Mashine Haramu”, which aims to clamp down on unauthorised gaming operators, manufacturers and suppliers across Uganda. It comes after the regulator seized dozens of illegal gaming machines in Jinja City, Masaka City and Mpigi.

According to the NLGRB, Operation Mashine Haramu is a strategic initiative that combines intelligence, community information and enforcement to protect the public from the adverse effects of unauthorised gaming.

The Board extends its gratitude to all informants and residents who provide tips on illegal gaming operations and urges them to remain vigilant and continue providing valuable leads to fully eradicate the menace of unauthorised gaming and protect the public from associated risks.
