NLGRB joins forces with Ugandan judiciary and ODPP to enhance gaming regulation

The partnership will strengthen the NLGRB’s ongoing #MashineHaramu crackdown, which has already led to the destruction of more than 6,000 illegal gaming machines so far in 2025.

Uganda.- The National Lotteries and Gaming Regulatory Board (NLGRB) has formed a strategic alliance with Uganda’s Judiciary and the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) to dismantle illegal gaming networks nationwide.

The partnership, which was unveiled at a recent high-level summit, will drive the establishment of gaming courts, provide joint training for judges and prosecutors and facilitate enhanced intelligence sharing with the police. There are also plans to launch nationwide awareness campaigns to promote legal play.

NLGRB CEO Denis Mudene Ngabirano described the partnership as a vital step towards achieving sustainable progress in gaming regulation. He said: “The NLGRB is committed to working hand in hand with the Judiciary, the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions and law enforcement agencies to ensure that gaming laws are effectively applied and offenders are held accountable.”

Gladys Kamasanyu, Chief Magistrate of the Standards, Utilities and Wildlife Court, assured that the judiciary is fully behind the initiative. She added: “The judiciary is one of the key stakeholders in combating crime. We are committed to understanding the gaming industry and supporting the Board. We shall partner with the Board to build capacity and teach stakeholders about the gaming law.”

The partnership will strengthen the NLGRB’s ongoing #MashineHaramu crackdown, which has already led to the destruction of more than 6,000 illegal gaming machines so far in 2025. Through this multi-agency approach, the regulator aims to build a regulated, transparent and responsible gaming environment that protects citizens, supports lawful businesses and ensures gaming continues to contribute fairly to national revenue.
