NLGRB engages Mbale residents in responsible gaming campaign
Free counselling and advisory services were also offered during the engagement.
Uganda.- The National Lotteries and Gaming Regulatory Board (NLGRB) has expanded its responsible gaming awareness efforts with a community engagement programme at Nkoma Market in Mbale City.
According to the regulator, the outreach held on Monday, May 11, focused on educating residents about responsible gaming practices and providing information on the risks linked to excessive gambling. Board officials also responded to questions from members of the public on how to participate in gaming activities without causing financial or social harm. Free counselling and advisory services were also offered during the engagement.
The campaign forms part of the NLGRB’s broader effort to increase public awareness as Uganda’s betting and gaming sector expands. Under the country’s Lotteries and Gaming Act, the regulator is mandated to supervise gaming activities while also protecting citizens from the negative effects associated with gambling.
Uganda’s gaming industry has recorded significant growth in recent years, driven by increased mobile betting, online gaming platforms and wider access to digital payment systems. In response, the regulator has intensified public sensitisation campaigns, compliance operations and enforcement against illegal gaming activities.
In recent months, the NLGRB has expanded its responsible gaming initiatives through school outreach programmes, media partnerships and stakeholder engagements with licensed operators. The regulator has also introduced responsible gaming directives requiring operators to display gaming warnings, support self-exclusion measures and strengthen protections for vulnerable persons.
Following the Mbale engagement, the responsible gaming campaign is expected to continue in Mbarara and Gulu as the board increases direct interaction with communities across Uganda.
