NLGRB confiscates hundreds of unlicensed gaming machines
The watchdog’s renewed efforts are enhanced by the deployment of its Compliance and Enforcement team, which recently finished an extensive training program.
Uganda.- In a bid to curb illegal gaming activities, the National Lotteries and Gaming Regulatory Board (NLGRB), in collaboration with the Uganda Police Force, has intensified its crackdown on unlicensed gaming machines nationwide.
The latest enforcement action led to the confiscation of over 154 illegal gaming machines in Mpigi, Masaka and surrounding towns. The machines, which were being operated without licences, were found in various shops, bars and other locations that were not compliant with gaming regulations. Now, they will be destroyed after the NLGRB secures court orders granting the request.
In its release after the seizures, the NLGRB reiterated its commitment to ensuring the integrity and fairness of the gaming industry in Uganda. It further urges members of the public to keep reporting any unauthorised gaming operations to maintain a fair and safe gaming environment.
The regulator continued: “You are encouraged to report such activities or lodge formal complaints through our Toll-free line 0800285800 or via email at [email protected]. Your vigilance is critical in supporting our efforts to regulate the industry and protect the public from illegal gaming operations countrywide.”
In recent months, the NLGRB has confiscated and destroyed thousands of illegal gaming machines, with over 5,000 reportedly seized so far. The watchdog’s renewed efforts are enhanced by the deployment of its Compliance and Enforcement team, which recently finished an extensive training program.
