Nigeria.- Nigeria’s esports team FowlPlay stormed to victory in the PUBG Mobile (PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds Mobile) finals, defeating Senegal in a thrilling showdown at the AFROWEST Esports Games 2025.
The online tournament, held from September 25 to 28, 2025, brought together top players from 12 West African countries– Nigeria, Senegal, Ivory Coast, Togo, Mali, Burkina Faso, Guinea, The Gambia, Mauritania, Benin, Ghana and Liberia – to compete for a $3,000 prize pool (€2,770), highlighting the region’s growing esports scene.
Organised by the African Confederation of Electronic Sports (ACES), AFROWEST 2025 featured five major titles, including Mobile Legends (MLBB) and FIFA Mobile, giving gamers a continental platform to showcase their talent.
Per Second News said: “FowlPlay team has been crowned champion of the 2025 AfroWest PUBG Mobile tournament against 12 other West African countries in the regional esports event.”
FowlPlay dominated the finals with 64 Play of the Play points (PP), 55 eliminations and 109 Teleport moves (TP), demonstrating exceptional coordination and precision.
West African esports soar
The tournament celebrated both individual and team skill, strengthening ties within the West African esports community and underlining the region’s rise in competitive gaming.
Social media coverage amplified the event, with highlights, live updates and behind-the-scenes content shared across Facebook, Instagram and X, while organisations like the Ghana Esports Association encouraged fans to support their national teams.
AFROWEST 2025 marks a milestone for West Africa’s esports ecosystem. By fostering competition, nurturing grassroots talent and connecting players across borders, ACES is building a sustainable foundation for even larger tournaments in the future.
