Mauritius Gambling Regulatory Authority launches horse racing rules review

Authority opens formal consultation on racing regulations, integrity rules and operational procedures ahead of the 2026 Champ de Mars racing season.

Mauritius.- The Gambling Regulatory Authority (GRA) of Mauritius has launched a formal consultation exercise on its Rules of Racing, marking a regulatory review of the framework governing the country’s horse racing sector.

According to a communiqué published on April 13 2026, the consultation forms part of a review of racing regulations, integrity rules and operational procedures under the Authority’s oversight of the sport. The Rules of Racing define the regulatory framework for the organisation, supervision and administration of horse racing activities in Mauritius.

The GRA is the statutory body responsible for regulating and supervising gambling activities in Mauritius, including betting, gaming operations and horse racing. Its mandate includes ensuring compliance with gambling laws, maintaining integrity standards across regulated sectors and overseeing licensing and enforcement within the industry.

Horse racing in Mauritius is organised through a structured annual racing calendar at the Champ de Mars Racecourse in Port Louis, with race meetings scheduled throughout the year rather than a single fixed seasonal window.

The 2026 horse racing season officially begins on April 25 2026, with a total of 27 race meetings scheduled through to December 2026 as part of the official fixture programme. Further updates are expected following the conclusion of the consultation process.
