MAGLA boosts Malawi tourism and responsible gambling outreach at Zomba City Festival
Lottery regulator used the three-day cultural event to promote responsible gambling and public engagement.
Malawi.- Malawi Gaming and Lotteries Authority (MAGLA) strengthened its public engagement and responsible gambling outreach efforts through a MWK5m (€2,500) sponsorship of the 2026 Zomba City Festival.
The regulator said it partnered with the festival to “support Malawi’s tourism sector and creative industries while engaging directly with festivalgoers” through responsible gaming activities, according to a post-event statement.
The festival, now in its sixth edition, was held across multiple venues in Zomba from May 1-3 and featured live music, theatre productions, fashion showcases, poetry, workshops and guided cultural activities. Organisers said the event aims to promote cultural tourism while attracting both local and international visitors to the former capital city.
MAGLA said the festival brought together people from across Malawi through music, art and community activities celebrating the country’s cultural heritage. “MAGLA’s participation reflects the Authority’s commitment to supporting initiatives that promote social interaction, cultural growth and local tourism,” the Authority said.
MAGLA, which regulates Malawi’s gaming and lotteries sector, distributed responsible gaming flyers and hosted an interactive quiz focused on the gaming and lotteries industry. Festival attendees who answered quiz questions correctly received branded merchandise including hats, T-shirts, pens and drinking bottles.
The sponsorship reflects MAGLA’s ongoing efforts to combine responsible gambling messaging with broader community engagement initiatives.
