Senegal.- Senegal’s National Lottery operator (LONASE) has appointed Makane Diop as the new General Administrator of its Foundation. Diop took over from outgoing General Administrator Pape Daouda Diatta on October 1 during a handover ceremony at the Foundation’s premises.

The LONASE Foundation is the social arm of Senegal’s national lottery operator, carrying out social, humanitarian and civic initiatives. “Our motto, ‘Fortune to the subscribers, benefits to the Nation’, sums up this philosophy in itself. It reminds us that behind the activities of LONASE, there is a responsibility towards the Nation,” said Diop, according to a LONASE statement.

Diop thanked Diatta for his work and described the leadership change as a continuation of the Foundation’s activities. He also pledged to work in line with the direction of the Foundation’s board and LONASE management.

His priorities include strengthening the Foundation’s visibility and effectiveness, improving the quality of its interventions and ensuring beneficiaries remain at the centre of its work. “Our ambition must be clear: to do more, to do better and to make useful,” he said.

He also called for greater commitment from Foundation employees and said it should remain close to communities, respond to their concerns and provide concrete assistance while respecting its mandate and resources.

Diop added: “We must continue to accompany vulnerable people, support initiatives with a strong social impact, respond to emergency situations and contribute, within our means, to the improvement of the living conditions of our fellow citizens”.

Outgoing administrator Diatta congratulated Diop on his appointment and said he was handing over a functioning organisation with a prepared team and up-to-date files.

The leadership change comes as LONASE continues to use its Foundation as part of its wider social, humanitarian and civic activities in Senegal.
