LONACI steps up fight against problem gambling with nationwide staff training
With the initiative, LONACI reinforced a clear message: gambling can be enjoyed, but only when played responsibly — and the company is determined to keep it that way.
Côte d’Ivoire.- The National Lottery of Côte d’Ivoire (LONACI) has trained its staff across the country on how to identify and prevent problem gambling. Held from August 25 to 29, 2025, the company-wide awareness programme on responsible gaming involved all agencies under the state lottery operator.
The initiative was launched by the general management under the leadership of Director-General Dramane Coulibaly and coordinated by the Autonomous Service for Quality and Responsible Gaming (SAQJR) with the support of the Human Resources and Employee Experience Department.
Specialists from the Bogson Group consultancy, along with experts in psychology and addiction treatment — Professor N’Dri Yao Eugène, Dr Kanga Adouakoua Brice, Dr Kouakou Ahou Albertine and Dr Djako Logon Albert Thierry — led the sessions. They trained managers and operators to spot risky player behaviour, understand the psychology of gambling and use preventive measures to avoid addiction.
LONACI says the campaign reflects its corporate vision to balance entertainment with social responsibility. Ninnin Fofana, one of the company’s Product Managers, said: “The mental health of our players is a priority for us. Gambling must remain a leisure activity. The aim of LONACI is not to impoverish the population.”
The initiative builds on other public efforts this year, including panel discussions on “Responsible Gaming in the Digital Age” and educational talks on “The Psychology of the Bettor”. These events have highlighted the importance of detecting early warning signs, such as excessive play frequency or high spending, and offering players support before gambling becomes harmful.
LONACI, a member of the World Lottery Association, has been implementing responsible gaming measures for several years, including self-exclusion tools, behavioural monitoring and public education. Its goal is to maintain a healthy, sustainable gaming industry in Côte d’Ivoire while protecting players and communities.
With the conclusion of the August campaign, LONACI reinforced a clear message: gambling can be enjoyed, but only when played responsibly — and the company is determined to keep it that way.
