LONACI launches free cancer screening program for employees

The initiative aligns with global trends emphasising early detection and preventive care, especially in regions where late-stage diagnoses often lead to poor outcomes.

Côte d’Ivoire.- Côte d’Ivoire National Lottery (LONACI) has introduced a cancer prevention and screening initiative for its employees. The idea was conceived by Dramane Coulibaly, General Director of LONACI, out of the need to improve employee welfare and promote a healthier workforce.

Held from Monday, August 25, 2025, to Friday, August 29, the program offered services such as mammography, pap smear and breast examinations for women, and prostate screenings for men.

The campaign was spearheaded by a team comprising Diallo Adama, Head of Social Services, Dr. Cheikh Tidiane, gynaecologist at the LONACI Medical Centre, and Professor Fofana Abdoulaye, urological surgeon.

Alongside the free screenings, staff were also educated on cancer prevention, early detection and the importance of regular checkups and healthy living. They also received support and counselling for their individual health needs.

The initiative aligns with global trends emphasising early detection and preventive care, especially in regions where late-stage diagnoses often lead to poor outcomes. According to the World Health Organisation and national health data, breast and cervical cancers remain among the leading causes of morbidity among Ivorian women; meanwhile, awareness and access to screening have historically lagged behind demand.

Although this campaign primarily benefited internal staff, it sets a powerful example of corporate social responsibility in action. By offering free on-site cancer screenings, health education and collaborating with experts, LONACI demonstrates how organisations can directly support employee welfare while promoting a culture of prevention.

Coulibaly said: “Concern for employee well-being is central to our values at LONACI. That’s why we are supporting our social service in implementing this important initiative.”
