Liberia NLA assists disability advocate pursuing studies in UK
The contribution forms part of the NLA’s wider social programmes alongside its operations in Liberia’s lottery sector.
Liberia.- Liberia’s National Lottery Authority (NLA) has provided US$524 to help fund the travel expenses of disability rights advocate B. William Yarsiah as he prepares to pursue further studies in the United Kingdom.
The contribution was presented on September 15, 2026, at the NLA’s headquarters on Old Road in Monrovia by Watson Yeanue, the authority’s director of corporate social responsibility, on behalf of NLA management.
The payment fulfils a commitment previously made by the lottery authority to assist Yarsiah with the cost of travelling to the UK for his academic programme.
Yeanue said the support forms part of the NLA’s social responsibility work, which includes interventions focused on education, human capital development, inclusion and citizen empowerment. He added that the NLA views educational assistance as an investment in human capital, allowing beneficiaries to pursue advanced qualifications and develop expertise that can be applied to Liberia’s social and economic development.
Yarsiah, who serves as executive director of the African Youth with Disabilities Network, thanked the NLA and its director, Peter L. SoLo, for the assistance. He said the financial support would help him progress towards his educational goals as he prepares to continue his studies in the United Kingdom.
The payment reflects the NLA’s role in directing resources from its lottery activities towards selected social programmes. The authority said it remains committed to supporting initiatives that contribute to education and human capacity development in Liberia.
