Tanzania.- Sportsbook and online casino operator Leon is celebrating its first anniversary of launching in the Tanzanian betting market.

According to the operator, since it debuted in the jurisdiction 12 months ago, tens of thousands of Tanzanians have signed up on its platform. This uptake demonstrates its appeal to local gamers and highlights the country’s growing gaming industry.

Leon also reiterates its dedication to innovation, responsible gaming practices and fostering a loyal community of players in Tanzania. To strengthen its team in the region, the company has announced the appointment of Zawadi Gabriel as its Tanzania operations manager.

Prior to her new role, Zawadi served as product lead for Betika Tanzania from September 2024 until March 2025. She joined the firm in 2021 as a business intelligence analyst. Leon expects Zawadi to leverage her strategic expertise and local knowledge to drive business growth and cement its position as a regional gaming leader.

A Leon spokesperson said: “We’ve seen an incredible response from players in the Tanzania market. With Zawadi on board, we’re confident we’ll take our operations to the next level. This is just the beginning.”

Leon was awarded casino and sports betting licences by the Tanzania Gaming Board in August 2024, paving the way for its launch in the jurisdiction.

As a testament to its thriving gaming market, Tanzania is set to host the (SBEA+) summit in May this year. The event will convene operators, regulators and key stakeholders from the East African gaming industry and beyond.
