Kenya’s gaming operators mark 20-year milestone with pledge for responsible gambling
AGOK vowed to prioritise dialogue, clarity and compliance in its operations and work closely with regulatory bodies to promote a safe, fair and predictable gaming environment.
Kenya.- The Association of Gaming Operators of Kenya (AGOK) marked its 20th anniversary with a grand celebration at the Safari Park Hotel in Nairobi last Friday.
The event brought together operators, government officials and key stakeholders in Kenya’s gaming industry for a night of networking, entertainment and reflection on the sector’s progress. Discussions centered on the association’s achievements, responsible gambling and improved engagement with regulatory bodies. Operators pledged to promote responsible gambling practices to ensure the industry’s long-term sustainability.
AGOK’s Chairman, Sasa Krneta, said the association is encouraged by its progress in championing responsible gambling initiatives. He noted: “Our mission is simple; to speak with one voice, to advocate for fair regulation, to address illegal gambling and to promote responsible gaming. Responsible gaming is a top priority for us. Through the Chukua Control campaign, training programs, better self-exclusion systems and public education, we are increasing commitment to player safety and well-being.”
Weldon Ngeno, Deputy Commissioner of the Large Taxpayers Office, commended the gaming sector for its tax performance, stating that tax collections from operators have increased by 21 per cent over the past year.
Hon. Joseph Kirui Limo, Chairman of the newly formed Gambling Regulatory Authority (GRA), acknowledged the industry’s importance and pledged to work closely with gaming companies to improve their operating conditions.
He said: “The industry is growing, and it has to be supported. This is recognition by the government that you are very important stakeholders in this country. We are going to work together more than ever before.”
AGOK vowed to prioritise dialogue, clarity and compliance in its operations and work closely with the GRA, Kenya Revenue Authority, Financial Reporting Centre and other institutions to promote a safe, fair and predictable environment for licensed operators and consumers alike.
