Kenya meets gaming operators on gaming sector reforms

The discussions reviewed reforms introduced over the past two and a half years and their impact.

Felix Koskei, chief of staff and head of the public service in Kenya, has met with regulators and gaming operators in the country to discuss industry reforms, responsible gambling and future regulation of the sector.

The meeting brought together the Betting Control and Licensing Board (BCLB) and the Association of Gaming Operators in Kenya (AGOK) as the government continues efforts to strengthen oversight of the country’s gambling industry.

According to Koskei, the discussions reviewed reforms introduced over the past two and a half years and their impact on improving compliance and stability within the sector. The talks also focused on how to support industry growth while maintaining consumer protection measures and clear regulatory standards for operators.

Kenya’s gaming sector has faced increasing scrutiny in recent years over issues including underage gambling, addiction concerns, taxation and licensing compliance.

Participants at the meeting highlighted the importance of ethical business practices, responsible gambling policies and cooperation between regulators and licensed operators.

Koskei said the government remains committed to maintaining a fair and transparent regulatory environment that supports investment while protecting public interest.

The engagement forms part of wider consultations between Kenyan authorities and gambling stakeholders as the country reviews the direction of its gaming industry and ongoing regulatory framework.
