Hollywoodbets acquires Gold Circle in new era for South African horse racing

Hollywoodbets secures future of KwaZulu-Natal horse racing with bold acquisition, job-saving investment and game-changing upgrades.

South Africa.- In a landmark deal that’s set to shake up the South African horse racing scene, Hollywood Sportsbook Holdings has officially taken the reins of Gold Circle, the long-standing racing operator in KwaZulu-Natal (KZN).

The acquisition, approved by the KwaZulu-Natal Economic Regulatory Authority (KZNERA), not only brings two racing giants under one roof but promises a reinvigorated future for the sport in the region.

Cape Town and KZN racing now share the same stable, and the ripple effect is already being felt. With Hollywoodbets at the helm, there’s a galloping sense of momentum, driven by a powerful blend of corporate commitment and community passion.

The horse racing industry

The move follows Hollywoodbets’ earlier investments in revitalising Cape Town’s racing industry, and now the spotlight is firmly on KZN. Hollywoodbets, already known for its wide-ranging sponsorships – from the Dolphins cricket team to the Sharks rugby franchise – is now championing one of the country’s oldest and most beloved sports.

Hollywood CEO Suren Rampersadh confirmed that it was now all systems go to revitalise a sport that enjoys a unique place in the hearts and minds of passionate locals.

“We wish to reaffirm that we are fully committed to securing the future of the horse racing industry in KwaZulu-Natal and are privileged to be in a custodial position to carry the baton into what we firmly believe will be a bright and prosperous future for the sport and all stakeholders in the region and beyond,” he said.

“This has been a long journey, and we are super-proud that our team has got it over the line. I am sure that our pride is more than matched by the relief and renewed enthusiasm of all stakeholders.”

Rampersadh emphasised that the company’s long-term investment will continue to expand, with a goal to “change the face and broaden the appeal” of the sport, which boasts a global reach into over 584 million households.

Aside from the glitz of race day, this bold acquisition is expected to safeguard around 6,000 jobs across the province and fuel a massive infrastructure upgrade.

Enhancements are already underway at Hollywoodbets Greyville Race Course, including track renovations and lighting systems that will allow for day and night racing. Meanwhile, the Summerveld Training Centre will benefit from modernised stables, improved accommodation for grooms and upgraded roads.

This isn’t just a corporate win, it’s a lifeline for an industry steeped in tradition, now charging forward with renewed energy and vision.
