Global Lab announces Nigeria partnership as Africa-wide certification push gathers pace

Malta-based testing laboratory says collaboration with Nigeria’s Lagos gaming regulator will underpin proposed ‘GLA Standard’ for compliance across Africa.

Nigeria.- Malta-based gaming testing and certification laboratory Global Lab has announced a strategic partnership with Nigeria’s Lagos State Lotteries and Gaming Authority (LSLGA), unveiling plans for a new regulatory and certification framework aimed at harmonising compliance standards across Africa’s gambling sector.

The announcement was made during the Gaming Tech Summit Africa (GTSA) in Nairobi on June 5, where Global Lab said the partnership was revealed before an audience of more than 25 African regulatory and authority leaders.

According to the company, Global Lab has been appointed as the technical body and exclusive certification laboratory for the LSLGA, marking what it described as a significant step towards modernising gaming oversight and compliance processes.

The LSLGA is one of Africa’s most prominent sub-national gaming regulators and oversees gambling activities in Lagos, Nigeria’s commercial and financial hub. Central to the partnership is the development of the “GLA Standard“, a proposed technical and regulatory framework that Global Lab said will be created in collaboration with the LSLGA.

According to the announcement, the framework is intended to standardise certification procedures, improve auditing and testing quality, support player protection initiatives and help address regulatory fragmentation across African markets.

The Malta-based laboratory said the partnership will see it provide an end-to-end technological and regulatory ecosystem designed to strengthen transparency, improve operational efficiency and enhance regulatory supervision within the gaming sector.

The firm said the initiative aims to create a more unified compliance environment for regulators, operators and suppliers across Africa. Global Lab CEO Maurizio Soccodato said: “This is a moment of profound transformation. We are charting a completely new course for compliance and regulatory technology, but we will not stop here. We are just getting started.”

Global Lab added that the partnership extends beyond Lagos and could serve as the foundation for a broader regulatory framework capable of being replicated across multiple African jurisdictions.

Global Lab said the GLA Standard could eventually be expanded to additional jurisdictions. The company operates under ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation and provides testing, auditing and compliance services to the gaming industry, with the partnership representing its latest push into Africa’s evolving regulatory landscape.
