Ghana’s gaming industry supports Purple Month campaign with hefty donation

The funding, pooled from member companies such as Betway, Sportybet, Premierbet, Msports, Betfox and 22bet has been put towards several initiatives

Ghana.- The Ghana Association of Sports Betting Operators (GHASBO) has reported donating GH¢235,000 (€19,219) to support the Gaming Commission of Ghana’s “Purple Month” campaign held in May 2025

The initiative, which featured the theme “Promoting Mental Wellness through Responsible Gaming” raised awareness about mental health challenges associated with excessive gaming and encouraged responsible betting habits.

According to GHASBO, the donation aligns with its broader initiative to create a responsible gaming ecosystem that prioritises ethics, sustainability and the protection of vulnerable individuals.

The funding, pooled from member companies such as Betway, Sportybet, Premierbet, Msports, Betfox and 22bet, has supported various initiatives, including responsible gaming programs at multiple universities across the country.

Events at Accra Technical University (ATU) and the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA) reached more than 1,500 students, who learnt about the importance of responsible gaming and resources for seeking help when needed.

The campaign comes at a much-needed time for Ghana as the country witnesses a surge in online betting platforms, and more youths are becoming vulnerable to problem gambling.

In May, the Gaming Commission welcomed an 11-member governing board led by MP James Enu. The board has outlined a proactive agenda centred on strengthening the legal framework for gaming operations and expanding public awareness initiatives like Purple Month.

With regulators and operators working in tandem, Ghana is poised to create a balanced gaming environment that prioritises player protection and industry growth.
