Game on: African gamers get direct shot at global PUBG glory
From local legends to global contenders, Africa’s esports scene gets the green light for PUBG Mobile’s biggest stage.
Kenya.- The Africa Cup 2025 launched by PUBG Mobile is set to change the game for African mobile gamers. A new door has opened for Sub-Saharan Africa, with the best players gaining their first-ever direct route to the prestigious PUBG Mobile Global Championship (PMGC) Finale.
PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds Mobile (PUBG Mobile), the mobile adaptation of the hit battle royale game known as PUBG: Battlegrounds, has gained global popularity and built a particularly strong fanbase across Africa.
Registrations for the PUBG Mobile Africa Cup 2025 opened on June 26 and close this week on July 9. The deadline is rapidly approaching, leaving teams across the continent with a very short window to secure their place via the PUBG Mobile app.
PUBG said this isn’t just a tournament; it’s Africa staking its claim as a rising powerhouse in the global esports arena. “We are so excited by the Africa Cup and we just can’t wait to see players from all over the continent drop into the zone and fight side by side with their squads for the title of Africa’s best,” said PUBG Mobile Publishing, according to ESports Africa.
Kenya to host the epic Grand final
From July 13 to 20, online qualifiers will unfold across four regions: Eastern Africa (16 teams), Western and Southern Africa (12 teams each) and Central Africa (8 teams). A total of 48 teams will emerge to compete in the Group Stage. From there, the top 14 squads, along with two invited teams, will move on to the Grand Final in Kenya.
Up to 100 players per match will dive into the game’s iconic battlegrounds, where survival hinges on strategy, precision and cohesion, and PUBG is anticipating an exciting Africa Cup.
Backed by Infinix, the event features a prize pool of $8,000. The winning team will take home $2,000, while second and third places will earn $1,400 and $1,000 respectively. Rewards will extend all the way to the 16th place.
Whoever takes the crown at the Africa Cup won’t just be champions of the continent. They’ll book themselves a direct ticket to the PUBG MOBILE Global Championship, the biggest and most prestigious showdown in the game’s calendar.
The tournament will wrap up with the Grand Final in Kenya this September, fully funded for all qualifying teams. It’s where elite teams from every corner of the globe come together to fight for fame, pride and a shot at millions in prize money.
As Kenya prepares to welcome the continent’s top teams, the 2025 Africa Cup marks far more than a tournament. It signals Africa’s arrival on the global esports stage.
