ECGB wins three awards for responsible gambling efforts at SARGF Awards 2025

The board said the accolades affirm its commitment to protecting vulnerable groups and promoting responsible gambling practices across the province.

South Africa.- The Eastern Cape Gambling Board (ECGB) has won three awards at the South African Responsible Gambling Foundation (SARGF) Awards 2025. The regulator was recognised for the Best Responsible Gambling Public Awareness initiatives alongside Limpopo Gambling Board and North West Gambling Board.

The ECGB was also awarded as the Best Responsible Gambling Regulator Messaging in Advertising, Marketing/PR campaign. It also took home a silver award for its collaboration with other regulatory bodies in South Africa.

In a statement announcing the win, the board said: “These accolades serve as a significant boost to our ongoing efforts to raise awareness and educate communities about the dangers of excessive and irresponsible gambling. The recognition further affirms our commitment to protecting vulnerable groups and promoting responsible gambling practices across the province.”

To mark November as Responsible Gambling Month, the ECGB recently unveiled a social media promotion, whereby users are encouraged to follow the regulator on any social media platforms to qualify for weekly prizes, including a grand prize of two VIP tickets to the Berlin November SA horse racing event.

The board is also combining public outreach with enforcement actions to ensure compliance with gaming regulations, while promoting responsible gaming in its jurisdiction. The regulator concluded last month by destroying dozens of illegal gambling machines confiscated during raids in taverns, barber shops and small tech stores across the province.
