Côte d’Ivoire gets major social boost as LONACI unveils 16 health and water projects worth FCFA9m

The Foundation rolls out 16 projects nationwide, enhancing healthcare facilities and providing clean water to communities across Côte d’Ivoire.

Côte d’Ivoire.- Communities across Côte d’Ivoire are set to benefit from a major social boost as the LONACI Foundation officially handed over 16 projects, totalling FCFA907m (€1.38m), aimed at strengthening healthcare and improving access to clean drinking water. The handover ceremony, held at the Foundation’s headquarters in Abidjan, brought together local authorities, ministry representatives and community members from the beneficiary regions.

The projects span the Autonomous District of Abidjan and 13 regions, including Gbêkê, Béré, Iffou, Moronou, Gôh, Bélier, Marahoué, Hambol, Worodougou, Gontougo and Haut-Sassandra. They comprise fully equipped integrated health centres, medical equipment, improved village water systems and community facilities designed to uplift the daily lives of Ivorians.

Abdoulkarim Ouattara, Deputy Director General of LONACI, said: “Access to clean drinking water is a key factor for good health. By providing this support, the LONACI Foundation contributes to the well-being of the population and strengthens the capacities of the healthcare system.”

The total investment was carefully divided, with FCFA718m (€1.09m) allocated to construction and FCFA190m (€0.29m) dedicated to medical and hydraulic equipment.

Local authorities, community representatives and LONACI officials come together to mark the handover of 16 health and water projects across Abidjan and 13 regions.

Health and water projects transform communities

In Abidjan, the Foundation handed over essential facilities, including Treichville and Cocody University Hospitals, and the Angré urban health centre. In Iffou, Moronou and Marahoué, integrated health centres were established in Benanou, Bouaffoukro and Kami, respectively, while Gôh received an equipped maternity ward at Grand Gbassi.

Medical equipment was provided to Bamela in Gbêkê and Sogbeni in Béré, and a multipurpose hall was completed in Bondoukou, Gontougo. Several improved village water systems were also installed across Bélier, Hambol, Worodougou, Haut-Sassandra and Marahoué.

Dramane Coulibaly, representing the Board Chairman, said that these projects reflect the Foundation’s strong social commitment and align with President Alassane Ouattara’s national social program. He highlighted the Foundation’s broader Social Caravan, which has already inaugurated healthcare and educational infrastructure across the country, further demonstrating LONACI’s dedication to improving quality of life nationwide.

Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Djiké Raymond, Prefect of Iffou, praised the Foundation as a “true engine of local development”. He said: “Our populations, whether in rural or urban areas, see their daily lives transformed thanks to these donations, which reflect the Foundation’s solidarity and commitment in the fight against poverty. We are deeply grateful to Dramane Coulibaly and his team for their tireless efforts.”

Through this comprehensive investment, the LONACI Foundation reinforces its determination to “continue investing in human development and the well-being of the Ivorian population”, cementing its role as a key driver of social progress across Côte d’Ivoire.
