Botswana Gambling Authority to sponsor HATAB 2026 conference in Maun

The involvement of the Gambling Authority highlights the growing recognition of gaming as a component of the broader tourism ecosystem.

Botswana.- The Gambling Authority of Botswana has been confirmed as a sponsor of the Hospitality and Tourism Association of Botswana (HATAB)’s 2026 annual conference, scheduled to take place on April 23 at Maun Lodge.

The conference, themed “Re-defining tourism strategies to reshape the Botswana tourism landscape”, will convene stakeholders from tourism, hospitality and related service sectors to examine emerging trends, share insights and explore collaborative approaches to drive sustainable growth and innovation in Botswana’s tourism industry.

The involvement of the Gambling Authority highlights the growing recognition of gaming as a component of the broader tourism ecosystem. In Botswana, licensed gaming activities are often linked to hospitality venues such as lodges and resorts, making regulatory coordination relevant for both sectors.

Authorities have positioned gambling as a controlled economic activity that can contribute to revenue generation, employment and tourism growth when properly supervised.

The platform will also provide an opportunity for the Authority to promote awareness about responsible gambling practices and player protection measures across the sector. Since the transition from the earlier Casino and Lotteries Acts to the current regulatory framework, the regulator has expanded its oversight to include stronger compliance standards and improved player protection measures.

At the last African Gaming Expo conference organised in Lagos, Nigeria, the Authority won the Africa Responsible Gaming Leadership Award in recognition of its proactive approach to responsible gambling and regulatory best practices.
