Botswana Gambling Authority prioritises responsible gaming at Jwaneng Masters

The organisation’s participation was in line with its corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives, which focus on education, awareness and community outreach.

Botswana.- The Botswana Gambling Authority has made an appearance at the Jwaneng Masters Basketball Tournament, held on December 5 and 6, 2025, where it set up an information stall to connect with fans and promote responsible gaming practices.

Staff engaged directly with players, spectators and bettors at the two-day event in the southern mining town, providing educational materials and guidance on identifying warning signs of gambling issues. The Authority also used the opportunity to share details about upcoming operator licence applications and to remind the public to use only licensed betting outlets.

The organisation’s participation was in line with its corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives, which focus on education, awareness and community outreach. It also ties to its ongoing Motshameko O Phepa campaign, which seeks to conduct responsible gambling outreaches across 500 sites in Botswana.

In an official statement after the tournament, the Authority said: “We are delighted to support the Jwaneng Masters Basketball Tournament that was held on 5 and 6 December. This partnership was a key play in our CSR strategy. We successfully engaged with attendees, from players to passionate betting enthusiasts, using the atmosphere as a unique platform to champion responsible gambling awareness. Our on-site stall served as the hub spot where we discussed the serious side of gambling addiction and reinforced our mandate for positive social change.”

The Jwaneng Masters is a popular annual community basketball competition that draws teams and supporters from across southern Botswana. Through its presence at sports events, markets and cultural gatherings, the Authority engages with a broad audience, including younger people and regular gamblers. It has confirmed that it will maintain the same approach in 2026, appearing at arts, entertainment and cultural events to keep the message of safe gambling in front of the public.
