Private lotteries and responsible gambling presentations emphasise regulated gaming and public education for community-based organisations.

Botswana.- The Botswana Gambling Authority participated in a Resource Mobilisation Workshop, hosted by the Botswana Council for the Disabled (BCD) in partnership with Boleng Training and Consultancy Services. The workshop aimed to help community-based organisations facing economic challenges strengthen their capacity to secure resources and manage projects effectively.

During the event that took place January 12-15, the Authority’s Senior Licensing Officer delivered a presentation on Private Lotteries, providing attendees with insights into how licensed lotteries operate under Botswana’s regulatory framework. The session focused on licensing requirements and operational procedures, helping participants understand the legal and structured ways to run private lotteries.

Public Education Officer Mavis Madumetse delivered a presentation on Responsible Gambling practices, emphasising the importance of informed and balanced participation.

“Our participation in this workshop reinforces the Gambling Authority’s commitment to promoting responsible gambling and supporting capacity‑building initiatives that benefit communities,” said Madumetse.

Public engagement and compliance

The Authority added that workshops like this support public engagement and education, helping communities understand the regulatory framework for lotteries and other forms of gaming. “Engagements of this nature support social inclusion while encouraging responsible practices within regulated sectors,” said the Authority.

The presentations demonstrated how private lotteries operate within a regulated and structured framework. Participants gained insight into licensing and compliance, which supports responsible participation in lottery activities.

The Gambling Authority’s involvement illustrates its ongoing role in promoting responsible gambling and public education, reinforcing that the gambling sector in Botswana operates under clear rules and oversight.
