Betika drives the action as Kenya’s Sunshine Development Tour Golf delivers intense competition

Betika-backed tournaments showcase competitive wins, boost prize money and strengthen pathways for Kenya’s emerging golf talent.

Kenya.- Kenya’s Sunshine Development Tour delivered major results in November as two Betika-backed events, the VetLab Masters and the Limuru Masters, produced decisive wins and reinforced the company’s growing presence in Kenyan golf.

The sponsorship has raised the stakes for top golfers, boosting prize money and creating stronger pathways for emerging talent. The tournaments, part of the Betika Masters series, are played over 54 holes with a cut for the top 30 and ties after the second round. Players also compete for Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR) and World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR) points, offering opportunities to progress to higher-tier tours such as South Africa’s Sunshine Tour and Big Easy Tour.

Betika Group Head of Brand Eric Mwiti said: “We believe in unlocking potential at all levels and creating a legacy of opportunity and excellence.”

The VetLab Masters, held from November 2 to 4, awarded a top prize of KSh400,000 (€2,680) from a KSh2m (€13,340) purse. The winning score was 10 under par, marking a third title of the Sunshine Development Tour season and showcasing a strong run of form that is drawing attention on Kenya’s rising golf circuit.

The Limuru Masters followed from November 9 to 11, where Greg Snow finished 10 under par 206, sealing victory with an eagle on the par-5 18th and taking home KSh400,000 (€2,680). The dramatic finish kept fans engaged and highlighted the excitement around the tour.

Betika builds golf pathways

Betika further emphasised its focus on supporting players and pathways. Mwiti added: “Our focus in the sport previously has been on players, including John Lejirma and Michael Karanga. Seeing their progress and the impact on their rankings, we decided to support the pathway itself so that other players, regardless of background, can have the same opportunity.”

Peter Gacheru, CEO of International Management Group (IMG) Kenya, which organises the Sunshine Development Tour, welcomed the support: “With partners like Betika, we are not just growing a tournament, but also building a pathway for Kenyan golfers to the global stage.”

Betika’s sponsorship has boosted the tour’s profile and competitive depth, while the Betika Masters provide OWGR and WAGR points, giving players crucial ranking opportunities.
