BCLB and AGOK launch responsible gaming campaign

Kenya.- The Betting Control and Licensing Board (BCLB) and the Association of Gaming Operators of Kenya (AGOK) have teamed up to launch a responsible gaming initiative to promote safer gaming practices in Kenya.
Named ‘Chuka Control‘, the campaign comprises public awareness programs that will educate Kenyans about responsible gambling. The regulator also enlisted the help of the Ministry of Health’s Counselling Psychology and Addiction Services Board to support individuals struggling with problem gambling with counselling services, mental health support networks and referrals.
A toll-free helpline and an 8-hour support call centre have been introduced to offer immediate assistance to individuals who need it.
Dr Jane Mwikali Makau, chairperson of BCLB, stressed the campaign’s importance in protecting vulnerable populations in her address during an official function at the Railways Training Institute in Nairobi.
She said: “This initiative is more than just a message – it is a national movement to combat the risks of unchecked gambling, which can have devastating effects on individuals, families and society at large.”
Sasa Krneta, chairman of AGOK, described his association’s support for the campaign as a testament to Kenyan operators’ commitment to responsible gaming. He said: “We are proud to stand alongside BCLB in this vital effort. Through our partnership, we are not only raising awareness on responsible gaming but also providing tangible support to communities, such as the food assistance program for families in South B.”
Commending AGOK for their collaboration, Dr Makau said the gaming industry’s adoption of ethics and social accountability signals its growth and embodies their shared goal of promoting Kenyans’ well-being.
