Angola strengthens gambling regulation as enforcement targets illegal operators
Angolan authorities launch a new enforcement phase in Mulenvos aimed at tackling illegal gambling while reinforcing the country’s regulatory framework.
Angola.- Angolan authorities are moving to strengthen oversight of the gambling sector, with a new enforcement phase in Mulenvos targeting illegal gaming operations as part of broader efforts to reinforce regulation.
The initiative is being carried out through coordinated efforts between the Institute of Games Supervision (ISJ) and the Municipal Administration of Mulenvos, aimed at improving oversight and addressing unlicensed gambling activities.
The ISJ said: “We are moving decisively into an enforcement phase, targeting illegal gambling operations through inspections, equipment seizures and legal action under Law No. 17/24 of 28 October (Gaming Activity Act).”
Officials also stressed compliance and deterrence, adding: “Illegal gambling will not be tolerated, and unlicensed operators will face strict enforcement measures in line with the law.”
Following a meeting held on April 15, authorities confirmed that the campaign will shift from awareness-raising to operational enforcement, including the identification of illegal gambling sites, seizure of unauthorised equipment and accountability measures against offenders.
The updated legal framework grants regulators expanded powers to monitor and act against illegal gaming activities, including confiscation of equipment and enforcement action under national law.
The earlier phase of the campaign focused on public awareness and discouraging illegal gambling, while the next phase will place greater emphasis on field operations and enforcement actions. Authorities say the initiative is aimed at improving coordination between national and local structures in addressing illegal gambling activities and strengthening overall regulatory compliance.
