Angola gaming regulator urges responsible gambling during UCAN academic week
The regulator warned students about unlicensed operators and urged them not to gamble with money intended for essential expenses.
Angola.- Angola gambling regulator, the Gaming Supervision Institute (ISJ) has taken its campaign against illegal gambling to the Catholic University of Angola (UCAN), where it used a workshop at the university’s Palanca Campus in Luanda to examine the risks of unlicensed gaming and the importance of responsible play.
The session took place on October 27 as part of UCAN’s Academic Integration Week, which provides a platform for discussions on academic and social issues among students and the wider university community.
The ISJ delegation, led by Afonso da Silva, head of the institute’s supervision department, included Dr Ediwagner Francisco and Dr Ricarda, who joined a panel discussion on the risks and prevention of illegal gambling. Francisco stressed the importance of informed decision-making and responsible participation in gaming. He warned learners against gambling with money intended for essential expenses, such as school fees, and urged them to avoid allowing gambling to interfere with their education and daily needs.
Ricarda discussed the risks associated with illegal gambling and the need to comply with Angola’s legal and regulatory requirements. She emphasised that illegal gambling can expose players to unregulated operators and leave them with fewer safeguards when disputes arise. She urged players to use only gambling platforms licensed by the ISJ.
The ISJ said the workshop had further strengthened its ties with the university and provided an opportunity to share knowledge on the legal, economic and social implications of gambling with the academic community.
