AIA and IBIA sign MOU to strengthen integrity in African betting

The two organisations will share anonymised alerts, draft joint letters to regulators and host free workshops for leagues and police.

Botswana.- The International Betting Integrity Association (IBIA) and the African iGaming Alliance (AIA) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), solidifying their partnership for the next three years. The agreement was signed on November 4, 2025, with one copy executed at the IBIA’s office in Brussels (Rue Wiertz) and the second at the AIA’s headquarters in Gaborone, Botswana.

The partnership will see IBIA become the AIA’s only integrity-monitoring partner on the continent, while the AIA serves as IBIA’s single point of contact for African licensing and tax rules. The two organisations will share anonymised alerts, draft joint letters to regulators and host free workshops for leagues and police.

Whenever the IBIA detects suspicious betting activity on a Kenyan league match, the alert is swiftly forwarded to the AIA within the same hour. AIA staff will then deliver the evidence to the Gambling Regulatory Authority of Kenya in Nairobi. The reverse flow works the same: a new Ghanaian tax proposal reaches IBIA’s policy team in London within 24 hours.

The two entities will also engage in joint activities and coordinate policy initiatives aimed at shielding consumers, regulated operators and sports from match-fixing and other betting-related threats. The pact renews automatically in November 2028 unless either side gives 90 days’ notice of termination.

The AIA was launched in July 2024 by four operators – betPawa, Betway Africa, 888Africa and SportyBet – who together hold licences in 20 countries across Africa. Other licensed firms can join the alliance for an annual membership fee of €5,000

Peter Emolemo Kesitilwe, CEO of AIA, commented: “Integrity is the foundation of Africa’s betting future. This partnership between the AIA and IBIA represents a decisive step towards ensuring that Africa’s growing betting industry is anchored on trust, transparency and accountability.”

Khalid Ali, CEO of IBIA, added: “Africa represents one of the most dynamic and fastest-growing betting markets in the world. Ensuring that this growth is underpinned by robust sports betting integrity standards and effective regulation is essential. Our partnership with the African Gaming Alliance reinforces our shared commitment to supporting a sustainable, well-regulated African betting industry that safeguards consumers and sporting competitions alike.”
