AI anxiety grips Morocco’s gaming scene
At a recent industry showcase, developers voiced rising fears that artificial intelligence may soon outpace their skills and their roles.
Morocco.- Artificial Intelligence (AI) might be powering the next big leap in game design, but for many creators in Morocco, it’s also powering a wave of unease.
At a recent gaming industry expo in Morocco, the spotlight turned to the sector’s fast-paced transformation and the growing anxiety among developers that AI could replace their roles.
Game developers and designers, long considered safe in their uniquely creative roles, are now grappling with a rapidly evolving tech landscape where AI is beginning to encroach on the very creativity that once set them apart.
Salaheddine Fellani, co-founder of the Alkhariqun Gaming Collective, urged a proactive approach to AI in game development. “We must learn how to deal with artificial intelligence and use it as a tool to assist us,” he said, according to Africanews.
Concerns grow over AI’s role
Fellani addressed concerns raised by game developers and designers about the rise of AI. “We only need to understand how to interact with AI appropriately. Naturally, there are concerns, because we don’t know how far AI development might go in the future,” he said.
From character design to story generation, AI is becoming more than just an assistant, it’s increasingly capable of doing the job itself.
The concerns voiced by game developers and designers at the expo reflect a wider unease spreading through the local industry, where the buzz around AI’s potential comes with a quiet worry about just how quickly the ground is shifting beneath creative jobs.
While the Moroccan government sees gaming as a potential economic powerhouse and hopes events like these will spark the ambitions of future creators, seasoned developers say it’s time to confront the shifting balance between human imagination and machine precision.
