Wisconsin Senate passes online sports betting bill

Assembly Bill 601 has passed the Senate by a 21-12 vote.

US.- The Wisconsin Senate has passed a bill that would allow tribes to offer online sports betting across the state by partnering with sportsbook operators. Assembly Bill 601 passed the state Senate by a 21-12 vote. The proposal now needs Governor Tony Evers’ signature. He’s not yet committed to doing so due to concerns about a lack of unanimous tribal support.

Sports betting in Wisconsin is currently legal only in-person on tribal land. AB 601, which was approved by the state Assembly in February, would allow Wisconsin’s 11 tribes to partner with sportsbook operators. The bill would allow bets to be placed anywhere in the state via mobile devices, as long as the server processing the bet is on tribal land.
