William Hill launches first in-arena sportsbook in the US
William Hill has launched the first US sportsbook located inside a stadium at the Washington Wizards’ home.
US.- The first sportsbook located at a major arena in the United States has been opened by William Hill in Washington, at the Capital One Arena, home of the NBA’s Washington Wizards and NHL’s Capitals.
Fans will be able to access the William Hill sportsbook during Wizards playoff games.
Although the New Jersey Devils opened a betting “lounge” at the Prudential Center in Newark in October 2018, this is only able to show odds, with bettors able to place wagers on a mobile application, since state restrictions limit in-person wagers to casinos or racetracks.
The Washington Wizards sportsbook has up to 20 betting windows and over a dozen self-serve kiosks for placing wagers.
The Sportsbook also features a state-of-the-art broadcast studio that will host Monumental Sport’s “By the Book” sports betting show. The new facility also boasts dining from Michelin-rated Chef Nicholas Stefanelli.
According to Tom Reeg, CEO of Caesars Entertainment, which recently bought William Hill, the launch shows the “breathtaking” change in the relationship between sports leagues, team ownership and sport betting companies.
Reeg said in a CNBC interview: “This feels very natural to be in this building and to be able to walk into the arena and into a venue like this, to place bets, and I think you’re going to see this continue throughout the country”.
