West Virginia debates sports betting business
West Virginia is one of the 18 states interested in legalising the sports betting industry.
US.- Casino operators with licences in West Virginia are allegedly meeting with representatives of major sports leagues to evaluate the business possibilities and benefits of a sports betting legislation. West Virginia is one of the 18 states that have shown interest in legalising the highly-acclaimed industry once the Supreme Court determines the legal status of operations.
Potential operators of sports betting platforms in West Virginia are the Casino Club at The Greenbrier, Hollywood Casino at Charles Town Races, Mardi Gras Casino and Resort, Mountaineer Casino, Racetrack and Resort, Wheeling Island Hotel-Casino-Racetrack, as reported by local gaming newspapers.
The bill signed by Justice would allow sports betting at local licensed casinos, as well as Lottery Commission-approved mobile device apps. The legislation says that ten per cent of gross receipts will be collected by the state, while it also states that bettors would need to be at least 21 years of age to engage in that activity.
The decision on whether PASPA legislation would be repealed or not will come later this year, but the US Justice has already asked the Legislature to consider a partnership with major sports leagues in the country, such as the NFL and the NBA.
