Washington State AG files lawsuit against unlicensed online casino apps

The complaint alleges that suppliers violated the Gambling Act and the Consumer Protection Act.

US.- Washington State Attorney General Nick Brown has filed a lawsuit against several companies that operate unlicensed online casino apps. The complaint alleges violations of the Gambling Act and the Consumer Protection Act and seeks to recover residents’ losses.

According to the Office of the Attorney General, apps have taken more than $225m from residents since September 2020. The lawsuit cites suppliers such as Playtika and Aristocrat, claiming that they are responsible for 16 apps used by more than 150,000 residents to engage in gambling every month via the purchase of virtual currency

It mentions apps such as Caesar’s Casino Slots, World Series of Poker, and Big Fish Casino. The Attorney General says the apps breach the Consumer Protection Act and failed to ask players for their age or date of birth. Playtika was accused of allegedly targeting children by using a blue cartoon cat.

Attorney General Nick Brown said: “These companies repeatedly violated Washington law, engaged in deceptive practices, and fleeced Washingtonians out of hundreds of millions of dollars. It is especially troubling to see gambling apps targeting children.”
