Total profit for the period ended June 30 was $901m.

US.- The Virginia Lottery has reported $901m in profits for the 2025 fiscal year. That’s the second-highest total in its 37-year history. Sales reached a record of $5.7bn for the year ending June 30, and $4.5bn was returned to players as prizes.

Under the state law, all Lottery profits go to support K-12 public education. At a ceremony, Lottery executive director Khalid Jones presented a cheque to governor Glenn Youngkin, who was accompanied by secretary of education Aimee Guidera and Kim McKnight, director of the VCU Center for Teacher Leaderhip.

Youngkin said: “This $901m contribution from Virginia Lottery profits is a powerful testament to our steadfast commitment to investing in the future of every student. Every dollar generated through the Lottery directly supports the teachers, schools, and programs shaping the next generation of Virginians, reinforcing our promise to provide a world-class education. This vital source of funding represents nearly 10 percent of our K-12 education budget to ensure that classrooms across Virginia have the resources they need to foster learning, innovation, and opportunity.”

Jones added: “This check represents the unwavering commitment of every Lottery employee to our mission of supporting K-12 public education, one play at a time. We are proud that the Lottery has once again delivered exceptional results for the Commonwealth.

“The profit from our games goes into the state’s Lottery Proceeds Fund, which benefits every school division in the Commonwealth. The fund supports several essential K-12 education programs, and approximately one-third of the profits allocated to each division is discretionary funding for that division to address their priority needs.”

The biggest win of FY25 was a Mega Millions jackpot worth $348m, the largest ever won in the state.

Meanwhile, casino gaming revenue at Hard Rock Bristol, Rivers Casino Portsmouth, and Caesars Virginia totalled $78.5m in June, up 31 per cent year-over-year and down 8 per cent from May. Slots revenue reached $58.9m, while table games posted $19.5m.
