Virginia casino project nears final approval
Richmond City Council has named ONE Casino Resort as its preferred operator for a proposed resort casino that could get final approval in a referendum on November 2.
US.- Richmond City Council has selected the Urban ONE proposal as its preferred proposal of a new casino in Virginia.
The ONE Casino Resort got an edge over the other two finalists in a process that began with six initial bids. It will continue as the city’s designated proposal in the process that’s expected to reach a referendum for voters whether to approve the venue.
The city now has to submit its selected operator and site to the Virginia Lottery Board for pre-certification. The City Council would then need to approve the full Host Community Agreement.
After that, the final two steps would be for the Circuit Court to call a November 2 referendum, when voters would decide on the venue.
“ONE Casino + Resort is a US$562.5 million project that will create 1,300 well-paying jobs with benefits in South Richmond, and every Richmond resident will benefit from the new revenue created by the project,” Mayor Levar Stoney said. “City Council’s vote tonight paves the way for every voting Richmond resident to have their voice heard on this important project.”
