Vermont sports betting handle declines in March

The handle decreased 4.8 per cent year-over-year.

US.- Vermont Liquor and Lottery has reported that the state’s sports betting handle was $21.8m in March. That’s a decrease of 4.8 per cent year-over-year. Adjusted gross wagering revenue was $1.9m. Winnings totalled $19.8m.

Basketball led the market with a $9.6m handle, followed by tennis with $1.8m and table tennis with $1.4m. Ebasketball generated $846,756 and soccer $825,914.

Of the total handle, $15.2m was bet in Vermont and $6.6m out of state. There were 9,781 active users in the state and 10,457 out of state. The number of bets totalled 768,742: 588,155 in Vermont and 180,587 out of state.

Vermont bill proposes ban on prediction markets

A bill recently introduced in the Vermont House of Representatives proposes a ban on certain event contracts. The proposal has been referred to the Committee on Government Operations and Military Affairs.

Sponsored by Rep. Thomas Stevens, House Bill 913 would prohibit “prediction market securities or commodities on the outcome of certain events.” The ban would cover prediction markets involving sports, contests, natural persons, politics and campaigns, disasters, war, all-hazards or death.
