Veikkaus reopens slots in Satakunta but halts operations in Åland
Finland’s state gambling monopoly has responded to the latest changes in Covid-19 restrictions affecting gaming hall and slot operations.
Finland.- The state gambling monopoly Veikkaus has resumed slot machine and gaming hall operations in the Satakunta region but halted all slot activities in Åland following the latest changes in the country’s Covid-19 restrictions.
Government orders prevent casinos, gaming halls and slots from operating in regions where the number of Covid-19 cases is increasing.
Satakunta has seen a decline in positive Covid-19 cases and has been downgraded to ‘basic’ Covid-19 measures. Veikkaus has therefore resumed operations of its slot machines in kiosks, shops and traffic stations and has reopened its gaming halls in the region.
Meanwhile, the Åland region has gone the other way, with an increase in Covid-19 cases leading to new restrictions. Veikkaus has switched off all slot machines and closed gaming venues until further notice.
Veikkaus has also halted slots operations in the region of Kainuu.
The changes come as Veikkaus implements its new requirements for virtual identity checks at all slot machines.
Meanwhile, the national government has proposed reforms to Finland’s Lotteries Act to cement Veikkaus’s monopoly on gaming in the country and allow it to offer B2B services.
