Veikkaus: 7% of players generate 50% of takings
Data from Veikkau’s ID verifications show that 7 per cent of players generate half of the company’s revenue.
Finland.- The state-controlled gambling operator Veikkaus has revealed that about 7 per cent of players have generated 50 per cent of its revenue this year.
Through its new mandatory identification validations, it found that half of the company’s takings came from 119,000 players out of a total of 1.7 million people who have played Veikkaus games in the year to date.
The figure represents a more balanced spread than for the market as a whole, since just 2.5 per cent of players generated 50 per cent of online gaming revenue when unlicensed offshore operations are also included.
Veikkaus introduced mandatory identification in January and extended it to cover all slots in July. The company is also installing a loss limit tool on its slots.
It plans to ensure that 100 per cent of revenue comes from registered players by the end of the year, while all products will require ID verification by the end of 2023.
Lauri Halkola, director of data and analytics, said: “This information gives us a positive message that the direction of our responsibility measures is the right one. The reading is based on data on identified gambling and covers the majority of euros played to Veikkaus – including slot machines.
“We have taken and will continue to take measures to prevent gambling problems in advance. Our goal is also to significantly reduce the share of problem gambling with our solutions.”
Last month, Veikkaus reported that around 800 customer accounts had been subject to suspicious logins in a mass hack. Meanwhile, the company has begun redundancy talks with 830 employees.
