UKGC reports increase in online gambling
The gambling commission said that the trend that started in 2015 continued last year.
UK.- The UK Gambling Commission (UKGC) published a report where they detail information that 17 percent of gamblers did so online, 97 percent of them doing it from their houses. Mobile phone and tablet devices increased 10 percent on 2016 and reached a 43 percent overall.
Programme director of the UKGC James Green said: “This report paints an important picture of how consumers in Britain choose to gamble, identifying emerging trends and potential risks to the public. We are also now able to provide a more detailed snapshot of online behaviours, which featured for the first time last year. Effective protections come from strong evidence. Our research puts us in a powerful position to better understand the needs of gambling consumers.”
The UKGC also analysed its audience and came to the conclusion that 68 percent of gamblers between 18 and 24 years old were attracted to the activity by ads and posts on social media. The local gambling commission also worked with the Competitions and Markets Authority (CMA) and reported that the biggest concern among players is having to gamble a number of times before they can claim their winnings.
