Typhoon had minimal impact

Macau’s six operators suffered only a small impact in revenues after the Typhoon Hato that hit the city last month.

Macau.- Morgan Stanley revealed in a note on Monday that the Typhoon Hato only had marginal impact on Macau’s six operators’ revenues. One of the two facilities that were still closed after the floods reopened its doors last week.

Analysts Praveen Choudhardy and Alex Poon said: “The impact of Typhoon Hato was marginal on six casino operators, and traffic and revenue were back in a couple of days, especially in Cotai. The current quarter is tracking at +6 percent GGR growth quarter-on-quarter, as September has been strong and forward looking for longer than the usual Golden Week in October is strong as well.”

Moreover, Morgan Stanley said that mass revenue growth is expected to remain higher than 10 percent for the months left of 2017, whilst VIP growth could stay above 20 percent when compared to 2016 for the rest of the year. “We see 17Q4 GGR slowing to 16 percent year-on-year from 17Q3’s 21 percent year-on-year mainly due to a base effect.”
