Turkish gaming sector reaches $700 million

The gaming sector in the Eurasian country is aiming to reach the US$1 billion mark this year.

Turkey.- Turkish game developers’ exports increased by 40 per cent in 2014 when compared to the previous year, reaching the US$700 million mark. The gaming sector is confident that the number could increase to US$1 billion this year.

Turkish Economy Minister Nihat Zeybekci said that game developers in the country are getting attention all over the world, and that they maintain the success that they have achieved in exports. Most of these achievements are due to the development of new games and the difference in foreign trade on one another.

According to the Game Developers Association of Turkey (TOGED), the gaming sector increased its exports by 25 per cent in 2016 and reached US$500 million, which was also a record-breaking figure. But with the 2017 results, a new mark has been achieved, as exports increased by 40 per cent to US$700 million.

“The sector broke successive records in the previous year and now aims to export $1 billion this year. We, as the Ministry of Economy, will continue to support the gaming software sector,” Zeybekci said, adding that game developers are preserving their US$2.5 billion to US$10 billion target for 2023.
